Can a man with a van move a 2-bed flat or house?
Updated
The short answer
Often, yes. A 2-bed flat with packed boxes and normal furniture is usually one or two large van loads. A fully furnished 2-bed house with a lot of stored stuff may need more trips or a bigger vehicle. The quickest way to know is to send a list or a few photos of each room before you book.
What usually fits
A large panel van takes a double bed, a wardrobe, a sofa, a table and chairs, white goods and a good stack of boxes. The contents of a lightly furnished 2-bed flat, especially one where the landlord's furniture stays behind, often fit in one load.
A 2-bed house is a different job. Attics, sheds, garden furniture and a second sofa add up quickly, and two loads is more likely.
What makes it two loads
The things that tip a 2-bed into a second trip are usually:
- Large wardrobes, dressers and corner sofas
- A full attic or garage
- Lots of loose items that aren't boxed
- Garden furniture, bikes and a lawnmower
When to book a removals firm instead
If you have a 3-bed's worth of furniture in a 2-bed house, a piano, or a move that has to happen in one trip over a long distance, a removals company with a lorry is the right call. We'll tell you if that's the case rather than take the job on.
Questions
How long does a 2-bed move take with a man with a van?
Usually most of a day, depending on the stairs, the distance and how ready everything is. Being fully packed before the van arrives makes the biggest difference.
Do I need to help carry?
Ask when you book. Some jobs are priced with a second person, others assume you'll help with lighter things.
