Student moves in September: Cork, Limerick and Waterford
Updated
The short answer
Book your student move as soon as your accommodation is confirmed, because the last week of August and the first two weeks of September are the busiest of the year. Pack into boxes and bags, check the move-in time and parking at your block, and if friends are going the same way, share one van run and split the cost.
When everyone moves
Student accommodation in Cork, Limerick and Waterford usually opens over a few days before term, and most students try to move on the same weekend. Vans and drivers book up first for those days, so the earlier you book, the more choice of time you have.
If your block allows midweek move-in, take it. It's quieter at the lifts, easier to park and easier to book.
What to bring, and what to leave
Check what your room already has before you pack. Most students need:
- Bedding, towels and a duvet
- Clothes in bags or boxes, not loose
- A desk lamp, chair or small storage if the room doesn't have one
- Kitchen basics, agreed with housemates so you don't end up with four kettles
- A bike, if there's somewhere secure to keep it
Sharing a run
Students from the same town going to the same college can share one van, with each person's things labelled. It's usually cheaper for everyone. Agree the pick-up order and the drop-off addresses in advance.
Moving out in May
The end of the year is just as busy. Check your move-out date and time with the accommodation, book the run home early, and clean the room before you go, because deposits depend on it.
Questions
Can a parent book the move for a student?
Yes. Someone just needs to be at each end to let the van in and show where things go.
Can you store things over the summer?
We don't offer storage ourselves, but we can move things into a self-storage unit you've booked and back out again in September.
