Guide
How to get a DoneDeal or Marketplace item collected safely
Updated
The short answer
Agree the price, payment and a collection window with the seller first, check the item's measurements against your doors and stairs, and ask for extra photos of any wear. Then book a van with the seller's address and time. If you can't be at the pickup, ask the driver to send photos before loading.
Before you agree to buy
- Ask for the measurements and check them against your doors, stairs and the turn at the top of the stairs
- Ask for photos of any marks, tears or damage
- For appliances, ask whether it works and when it was last used
- Check whether the seller can help carry it out, or whether it's upstairs
Payment
Agree how you'll pay before the collection. Be wary of anyone asking for payment up front for an item you haven't seen, especially if they push for an unusual payment method, and never share card details or codes with a seller.
On the day
Give the van the seller's address, phone number and the collection window. If you're not there, ask for photos at pickup so you can see the item before it's loaded. Fridges should travel upright where possible and stand for a while before being switched on.
Questions
Can one van collect from several sellers?
Yes, if the timing works. Line up the collections for the same day and give the driver the addresses in order.
