Moving house in summer: what to plan for in Munster
Updated
The short answer
Summer is the busiest time for family moves, because the schools are off. Book as soon as you know your date, keep a backup date if your move depends on a house sale closing, and plan around holiday weekends and the late-August student rush.
Why summer fills up
Families move in June, July and August so the children can start September in the new school. Add holiday lets turning over and the student rush at the end of August, and good dates go quickly.
When your date depends on a sale
If your move is tied to a closing, the date can slip. Tell your van booking that the date is provisional, and ask how much notice you need to give to move it. Packing early helps too: if the date comes forward, you're ready.
Summer moving tips
- Start early in the day, before the traffic and the heat
- Keep a bag of essentials for the first night: kettle, bedding, chargers, toilet roll
- Defrost the freezer the day before
- Check bank holiday weekends for road works and traffic on the main routes
Questions
Is it cheaper to move in winter?
Quieter months and midweek days are easier to book, and some movers price them differently. Ask when you get a quote.
